This can get quite complicated, leading to frustration, and this means that learning to draw a simple landscape is a task that many give up. The good news is that it can be made much easier, and this is just the tutorial to help you do it!
How to Draw A Simple Landscape
Step 1
In this first step of our guide on how to draw a simple landscape, we will start with things that are beautiful and simple! Drawing landscapes can be quite challenging, but like any drawing challenge, it can become easier if you break it down.
With that in mind, you can start by drawing a straight line horizontally across the page. This serves as the terrain of the forest you are depicting. After drawing, for some paths that we will finish in the next steps of the guide, you can draw wavy lines descending from them.
Step 2
In this second part of your simple landscape design, we’ll add more layers to the landscape! For this, we draw several layers of curved lines on top of each other to create the impression of depth.
On the right side of these hills, you can add the shape of many rounded lines for some bushes. So it’s time for the third step of the guide!
Step 3
We will now add more bushes and tree trunks for this third step of our how-to-draw-a-simple landscape guide! On the left side of the hills, you can add more bushes.
These look very similar to the ones you drew on the other side. The main difference is that they have a tree trunk stretching before them. You can draw this trunk with some curved lines that fork in the middle.
There won’t be any leaves on the tree yet, but rest assured that we will add them very soon in the next step!
Step 4
You started drawing the trunks of the larger trees in the previous step of your simple landscape drawing, and in this step, we will draw the leafy tops of the trees. These can be drawn with some large curved and rounded lines at the top of the tree trunks.
The bigger and thicker these look, the better! A space is left near the back of the image, but we will fill it in along with all the final details and additions in the next step of the guide.
Step 5
Soon you’ll be able to add some color to the image in the final step of this how-to guide on how to draw a simple landscape! Before that, we only have a few final aspects and details to add.
We’re going to draw more trees in the empty part at the back of the scene, and you can do this by drawing some more rounded and irregular lines for the outlines of the treetops. Once drawn, you can draw a few slightly curved lines from the top of the tree down to the small trunks.
Then you have this drawing ready! You can also add some details to the image to personalize it further. Some examples include adding atmospheric effects like clouds or even people and animals exploring that forest.
Step 6
Your simple landscaping is awesome! The best way to make it even better would be to add some nice colors, and that’s exactly what we’re going to do in this final step of the guide.
Perhaps more than any other step in this guide, this is where you can let your creativity run free! In our sample image, we have shown you just one of the ways you can colorize this awesome simple landscape.
However, these colors are just a suggestion! As mentioned earlier, you may want to use your unique colors. You can also play with great artistic mediums like acrylic paints or watercolors, so get creative and see what happens!
3 More Tips to Simplify Your Simple Landscape Drawing!
Take a trip with these tips we have for your easy landscape sketch!
Tip #1
Although the design has left this simple landscape design simple, some elements and details can still be simplified and even removed. Before making these changes, we recommend testing the theme as is.
If you find certain elements and parts that you are particularly struggling with, you can focus on those as you remove or change them.
Tip #2
For example, you may find it difficult to see how we drew the tree canopies. If that’s the case, these can be made in a different shape that you find easier.
It could also be that you prefer this new shape or care about the details! Even when creating something seemingly simple like this simple landscape drawing, you can make it much easier if you prepare it properly.
Tip #3
The best tool for this would be a pencil because you don’t have to worry about making mistakes. You can also use a ruler even if there are no straight lines in the image.
Using a pencil and ruler, you can draw rough guidelines for the horizon and the placement of the various elements.
